First, second and third grade students from Central Boulevard Elementary School recently celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Read Across America Week with a variety of festive events. They kicked off the week with DEAR time, where students were able to read for an uninterrupted period of time during the school day. Each day of the week, classes read a Dr. Seuss book and participated in a thematic activity related to the book. Students wore crazy hats in honor of “Cat in the Hat” and silly socks when they read “Fox in Sox.” They also participated in writing activities having to do with the topic of the book as well, like drawing their dream pet after reading “What Pet Should I Get?” The week was an enjoyable time for students and encouraged them to be creative through reading and writing.
