Although it's feeling like fall, last week high school students experienced a Summer day out on the water. The group took part in a 21st Century field trip to Oyster Bay. There they boarded an oyster sloop that was built in the late 1800's. The ship "Christeen" was restored to original condition and is now a registered National Historic Landmark. Participant had the opportunity to raise the sails and officially "crew" the boat. Marine educators from the Waterfront Center were on board to introduce local organisms to the students. The captain pointed out historic landmarks and explained what life was like in the hay day of the "Gold Coast". It certainly was a day to remember.
