On Tuesday evening 22 October from 6:30-10:00, BHS Student Civic Association met for the second time with Kathy Kelly at UUSRC - Shelter Rock Road in Manhasset to discuss her recent trip from Chicago to New York. The three time Nobel Peace Prize nominee talked with people during her trek across part of the country about their priorities in government spending and will present her findings on October 24, 2013 to the United Nations. Kathy recently returned from her 13th trip to Afghanistan and also spoke about the progress from the grassroots level that people and the APV are making in their community school, sewing projects for women and other initiatives begun by group who espouse non-violence.

BHS Student Civic also had the pleasure of hearing a Spoken Word Poet from New York City who recited two original pieces and participated in the event. BHS Student Civic members in attendance were: Deena Hadhoud, Josett Bernberg, Firas Akbik, Lucas Lee, Marie Giacinto and Madeleine Santoro. We will be continuing to participate in the Global Day of Listening which now encompasses over 30 countries on the 21st of every month.

BHS Student Civic will also be presenting the Global Days of Listening workshop at Adelphi University on 6 February 2013 at the annual Nassau County Human Rights Awareness Day Conference for Long Island high schools and for attending college students
