On Tuesday, January 25, fourth and fifth-grade students in the 21st Century Program at Central Boulevard Elementary School in the Bethpage Union Free School District enjoyed a special visit from the author of Hope Is Here to Stay, Patrice Domozych.

Mrs. Domozych shared her inspirational book, which tells the story of her niece, 13-year-old Lauren Loose and her battle with pediatric cancer, and how she wanted to help other children fighting the same illness. She also spoke to students about the writing process, reasons for writing a book, and followed up with a discussion about communication, inspiration, and empowerment.

Through book sales, a foundation was created called “Lauren’s First and Goal Football Camp.” The foundation helps families as they deal with pediatric cancer, and it raises money that goes to research and support for pediatric brain tumor research. After sharing information about the foundation, each student received a personalized copy of the book Hope Is Here to Stay, and also became part of “Lauren’s Circle of Strength.”
