Pi Day

On March 14th, 2011, over 25 students attended the 2nd annual Pi Day competition at JFK Middle School. Students sang “Happy Pi Day To You” (Sung to the tune of Happy Birthday), enjoyed “p ” cookies, and learned about everyone’s favorite irrational number. The high point of the afternoon was contest to see who could recite the most digits of pi. Our winner was Emily Dean, recited 265 (!!) digits of Pi. Our second place finisher was an impressive 6th grader, Michelle Luo, who knew 244 digits. Our third place finisher was Matthew Heym, who recited 150 digits (up from 66 last year when he won). The exciting event was hosted by Ms. Noreman and Ms. O’Sullivan!
