On Saturday, May 14th, Mrs. Klein, Ms. Green, Mrs. Sciglibaglio and Mrs. Weiner accompanied 40 students into NYC for the long-awaited trip to the Pompeii Exhibit. While there, they explored authentic artifacts, which were found buried under 12 feet of harden ash and pumice. It’s was amazing that most of the artifacts were still beautifully intact.

Before the trip, the students participated in a Volcano Workshop run by Mrs. Sciglibaglio. Students experimented with the consistency of magma, and created two different types of eruptions, including an explosive event like the pyroclastic flow that consumed Pompeii.

Also, the student viewed the movie: The Last Days of Pompeii. This movie brought the viewers into the lives of the many citizens who made up Herculaneum and Pompeii, the two cities destroyed by Mt. Vesuvius eruption in 79 CE.
