In the fall of 2014, 6th grade Social Studies classes read the novelette, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr. After reading the story of the paper cranes, the students decided to take the challenge of folding 1,000 paper cranes to honor Sadako’s memory, as she inspired the students. It took the kids about 5 months to do so but we met the goal of 1,000 folded cranes and the pride on their faces was priceless.
