Kathryn (Kate) Clyne, a fifth-grade student at CBS, began a fundraising organization last year. Called Piece by Piece, she is working for it to become an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit to benefit autism research. Inspired by her brother Michael, who is on the autism spectrum, Kate has been raising funds for Autism Speaks for the last few years.

Most recently, Kate formed a team that raised more than $8,000 for an autism walk on Oct. 4. As a result of her efforts, she received a proclamation from Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano.

Kate has created a T-shirt, which she also sells to benefit her cause. Anyone interested in purchasing the shirt – pictured here with Kate modeling it – can do so by emailing PieceByPieceBethpage@gmail.com.
