The Bethpage Union Free School District is pleased to announce the following students who will be performing in All-State music performing ensembles at this year's NYSSMA Winter Conference, to be held in Rochester from December 1 through 4, 2011:

Aekyung (Jane) Kim, Viola, String Orchestra
Luke Norris, Saxophone, Symphonic Band

Last spring, over 6,500 sophomores and juniors from across New York State put in countless hours preparing for All-State evaluations in the hope of being selected as an All-State musician. The selection process begins with the student’s solo receiving evaluation from a NYSSMA-certified All-State adjudicator at one of 43 All-State audition sites throughout New York State. Adjudicators are responsible for evaluating every solo of the same instrument or voice part. At the conclusion of the festival, the adjudicators create a rank-ordered proficiency list of all students being recommended. Every student who earns a score of 98-100 must be recommended.

This year, over 2,400 students statewide received scores of 98 or higher and were recommended for All-State consideration.

In addition to being named an All-State musician, Luke was a winner of the Young Composer's Concert. His composition, entitled "Transitions," will be performed at the NYSSMA Conference in December, and will be featured at the Electronic Music Showcase there as well.
Congratulations to Jane and Luke!
