Golden Eagles Soar to Victory as Bethpage High School Celebrates Homecoming 2011

Bethpage High School (BHS) celebrated Homecoming 2011 in grand fashion, beginning with a colorful parade of class floats through the community and culminating with a convincing win by the Golden Eagles Varsity Football team.

In the weeks leading up to Homecoming, students worked diligently on the traditional floats to create eye-catching works of art that captured the attention of the community members lining the streets. The parade began at the King Kullen shopping center on Stewart Avenue and ended at BHS, with the Marching Band leading the procession and the BHS faithful cheering all the way.

The festivities continued at the BHS Sports Complex, where community members filled the stands to root on the home team. Hard work, determination, and a dominant demonstration of football technique propelled the Golden Eagles to a 22-0 second-quarter lead over the Floral Park Knights. The Golden Eagles finished the day with a 29-14 victory. Danny Chillianis had 11 carries for 78 yards and two rushing touchdowns, as well as two receptions for 54 yards and one touchdown to lead Bethpage (7-0) in Nassau III.

During the halftime show, the Marching Band and Color Guard, Varsity Cheerleaders, and Varsity Kickline entertained the audience with on-field demonstrations. Joey Walsh and Erin Neuman were announced as Homecoming King and Queen and chauffeured around the track in a golf cart driven by Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics John Franchi and accompanied by Principal Michael Spence. The winners of the float competition - Jungle Juniors - were announced as having the most colorful float. The pièce de résistance of the homecoming show was a “flash mob” dance, which was a surprise to all!

School spirit, community pride, and a Golden Eagles victory all contributed to a Homecoming 2011 to remember!
