The 1st annual Moorestown Bio-Ethics Bowl took place at Moorestown Friends Academy in New Jersey on Saturday, October 22nd. Sixteen teams from the tri-state area matched wits over ethical cases whose topics included “win-a-baby,” NFL disclosure of concussion dangers, forced vaccinations, and convicts donating organs for a lesser sentence. After three rounds, four final teams were announced and Bethpage’s team consisting of Lauren Birck, Usman Asif, Michelle Mason, Jeremy Roller, and Chang Jeong took on Moorestown Friends Academy from New Jersey in the final round After an hour of intense commentary and rebuttal Bethpage ultimately took third place. Congratulations! An Ethics Bowl is a collaborative yet competitive event, in which two teams are presented with a series of wide-ranging ethical dilemmas and are asked to analyze them; they are then judged on the basis of their analyses.
