On Thursday, June 8, 2017, Mr. Levy's Grade 8 Social Studies class capped off their unit on World War II through a question and answer session with Mr. Levy's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Kochman. Both born in Germany just years before Adolf Hitler's rise to power, Mr. and Mrs. Kochman both lived through the Holocaust. They shared the experience of their escape from Germany as well as their long journey in the midst of World War II as refugees in Italy and China, before finally making it to the United States. The students spent two days in class researching and preparing questions for Mr. and Mrs. Kochman, eagerly anticipating their chance to speak to real survivors of the Holocaust. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Kochman for taking the time out of their schedule to stop by John F. Kennedy Middle School!
