Performing The Preamble

In honor of Constitution Day, Monica Klein’s sixth-grade social studies classes at John F. Kennedy Middle School studied the preamble to the Constitution and practiced reciting it for the sixth-grade Preamble Challenge.

On Sept. 15, Klein led the class in a discussion about the U.S. Constitution and an analysis of its preamble, identifying who it was for, its purpose and how it protects the freedoms of citizens. The lesson incorporated Schoolhouse Rock’s “We the People” music video to help students memorize the words.

The following Monday, after students had practiced diligently under Klein’s guidance, Principal Kevin Fullerton and Assistant Principal Nicholas Jantz hosted the Preamble Challenge during lunch periods to determine which sixth-grader could recite the preamble fastest by memory.
