On Thursday, October 5, 2017, students in the Italian Club spent a beautiful afternoon strolling along Arthur Avenue. The club advisors, Mrs. Sagarese and Ms. Calio, along with fellow Italian teacher, Ms. Rito, guided the students along this historical area known as "Little Italy of the Bronx". Everyone enjoyed buying fresh mozzarella, hand-made pasta, cannoli filled with delicious cream while you wait, and a variety of authentic Italian items in specialty stores along the strip. We ended our trip with a wonderful demonstration and a meal at Mike's Deli. Students learned the history of mozzarella making, and enjoyed samples of hot mozzarella, smoked mozzarella, fresh mozzarella with tomato, roasted scamorza, and fresh ricotta. Students enjoyed other Italian specialties such as prosciutto, mortadella, soppressata, and pesto pasta salad. Squisito!
