Wreaths Across America (Featuring Boy Scout Troop 46)

Several students and staff members participated in laying wreaths at the headstones of servicemen and women who are buried at Pinelawn National Cemetary as a part of National Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, December 16, 2017. National Wreaths Across America Day has been established in order to Remember, Honor, and Teach as well as recognize the service and sacrifices made by our brave servicemen and women whom have given all in order to preserve the freedoms and way of life that we as Americans possess as citizens of the United States. 45,000 wreaths were laid by more than 600 volunteers at Pinelawn. When a wreath is placed at a veteran's grave, the veteran's name is spoken aloud, and they are thanked for their service and sacrifice. This ceremony had been repeated throughout the United States as millions of wreaths were placed by thousands of volunteers at veteran's graves. Bethpage students, Simeon Kim, Joseph McDonald, and David Yorke who are members of Boy Scout Troop 46 braved the cold and snow to participate. Ms. Schroeder and Mr. Franchi also had the privilege of laying wreaths.  It is refreshing that our veterans are remembered and not forgotten on this important day.
