Bethpage High School Student Wins Private Concert for Her School

During the midwinter recess in February, Bethpage High School (BHS) freshman Stephanie Katartzis entered a Z100 contest and was notified in April that she won first prize—a concert for her school! The concert was hosted by The Candie’s Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that strives to prevent teenage pregnancy.

On May 21, Stephanie, her sister Julia, brother William, mother Christine, and fellow BHS students were awed by an amazing concert in the school’s state-of-the-art auditorium, which featured pop sensations Karmin and Hot Chelle Rae. Just minutes prior to the concert, Stephanie said, “I am so excited. Everyone in the school today had smiles on their faces. We’ve all be looking forward to this day!” To add to her excitement, Amy Heidemann of Karmin provided Stephanie with a personalized autograph. The freshman was then brought up on stage before the entire audience and introduced as the concert winner by the popular Z100 deejay Erica America.

Karmin is the hip hop/rap duo of Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan, winners of the 2011 American Music Awards’ New Media Honoree, and also musical guests on Saturday Night Live earlier this year. They performed their smash hit “Brokenhearted” and other popular songs to a packed house.

Hot Chelle Rae (HCR), the pop rock quartet of Ryan Follese, Nash Overstreet, Ian Keaggy, and Jamie Follese, performed their songs “I Like It Like That” and “Honestly,” among others. HCR gained widespread attention for their 2011 double platinum single “Tonight, Tonight.”

For Stephanie and her fellow students, this certainly was a concert to be remembered.
