Inaugurating the Nassau County Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged Victory Games, Bethpage High School Student Civic Events Coordinator Deena Hadhoud and member Suzanne Grigorian attended the Opening Ceremony on Thursday evening, May 31st 2012. This year as last year, Student Civic contributed $200 to sponsor a student athlete to defray costs of the athlete's participation in these challenging but inspiring games.

Teams of student athletes arrived at the "Parade of Athletes" at Nassau County's Mitchel Athletic Complex from all over Nassau County as well as parts of New York City to participate in a variety of athletic events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Everyone cheered as the student athletes were introduced and made their way to greet patrons, sponsors, legislators and community leaders in support of the event. Police officer color guards, student Olympic torch bearers and signers performing from St. Joseph School for the Deaf contributed their discipline and talent to the Opening Ceremony.

BHS Student Civic members met with County Executive Edward Mangano and exchanged their thoughts and ideas with many of the community leaders present. They were inspired by the courage of the participating athletes and had photos taken to commemorate the evening and their attendance at the event.

Donating to help sponsor an athlete, volunteering, and promoting events such as these are ways in which BHS Student Civic introduces our high school students to help build stronger communities through awareness and efforts.
