At their meeting on May 29, the Bethpage Union Free School District Board of Education announced the appointment of Erin Hayes as assistant principal of JFK Middle School, effective July 1. She will be a familiar face in the school, having served as one of the building’s social workers for the last five years, in addition to one year at Central Boulevard Elementary School.

Hayes has been an integral member of the Bethpage staff since joining the district in October 2012. Her knowledge of the students and their families, as well as her genuine concern for the school community, will serve as valuable assets in her new position.

In total, Hayes has 15 years of experience as a licensed clinical social worker. She has also served as a Dignity Act coordinator at the middle school and co-chair of the Character Education Committee. In addition, she has played a key role in the expansion of the social-emotional learning curriculum that helps incorporate mindfulness practices into the classroom and led to the creation of a “mindfulness room.”
