Students and staff at Bethpage Union Free School District’s Kramer Lane Elementary School welcomed three members of the New York Islanders hockey team on Nov. 19 during a special assembly as part of the Isles School Day Contest. Kramer Lane was one of a select number of schools on Long Island to win a visit from the athletes.

Islanders Stephen Gionta, Leo Komarov and Robin Lehner visited Kramer Lane to discuss their background, the importance of working hard in school, the value of teamwork and the importance of making smart life decisions. Under the guidance of Principal Kerri McCarthy, students then had the opportunity to ask the players questions. They inquired about the athletes’ favorite parts of Long Island, their favorite foods and more.

The assembly concluded with an autograph session for the building’s fourth- and fifth-graders followed by a group picture with the Islanders.

Kramer Lane and the district thank Stephen, Robin and Leo as well as the New York Islanders’ organization for visiting and sharing important messages with the students.
