Dictionary Donations for Third Graders

Third-grade students were treated to a special surprise during the district’s annual third-grade Read to Achieve event at Bethpage High School. The event, which was a pep rally for reading, served as a basis for the local Lions Club of Plainview-Bethpage to distribute its donation of a dictionary to each student. President George Hannau, past president Lois Bisca and Astoria Federal Savings representative and Lions Club member Diana Roca were on site for the distribution. The Dictionary Project provides an opportunity for students to expand their vocabulary while aiding teachers in their goal to see all of their students finish the school year as good writers, active readers and creative thinkers. This is the second year the dictionaries, which also serve as almanacs, were distributed by the Lions Club.
