Despite a late start on Friday December 7, 2012, the Bethpage High School traditional Little Italy Holiday trip persevered under the stunning direction of BHS Assistant Principal Kevin Healy and the World Languages Italian teachers, Ms Rito, Ms Calio and Ms Piazza. Students arrived at SPQR in time for a piping hot "pranzo" of Tortellini alla Panna, Penne al Pomodoro, Fusilli alla Primavere, Salsicce e Peperoni, Polpettine di Manzo, Pollo alla Parmigiana, Patate Arrostite, Verdure miste al Burro, and for "dolce" una Torta al Cioccolato and naturally, "cannoli". Students had a bit of time to comb the streets of Little Italy. At the Church of the Most Precious Blood on Mulberry Street, students from Ms Rito's group stopped to pose in front of a bronze replica of Michelangelo's MOSES, a true work of art which they could experience first-hand! Continuing on to Midtown, the groups were dropped off at 48th and Madison and then visited such sites as: St. Patrick's Cathedral, the annual Christmas Tree and skating rink at Rockefeller Center, the shops at the NBC building, Radio City Music Hall, Times Square, Nintendo Store, M&M Store, Bryant Park Shoppes and the NY Public Library. In the midst of sometimes light drizzle, sometimes rain, the lowering temperatures didn't seem to phase the students who stopped for an occasional hot "latte", cappuccino or "cioccolata calda". Gathering together during this holiday season, even in the midst of difficulties, expresses the spirit of the season, wherever we may be. An immense applause of appreciation to the patient chaperones and to a wonderful group of students this year that made the 2012 a most memorable and enjoyable excursion to one of the greatest cities in the world - NYC!
