Mr. Carroll accompanied high school students on a behind the scenes tour of the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead. The students had the opportunity to see the exhibits from a totally different perspective, the catwalk above several of the tanks. They were shown the inner workings of this amazing site including; filtration, water acquisition and maintenance. Everyone was impressed by the aquarium’s strict and labor intensive feeding routine. Conservation was a major theme of the day and the students were offered a close look at the coral breeding project. Coral is being propagated there for use by other aquariums to help reduce collecting from the wild. The group also enjoyed watching and learning about; snow monkeys, California sea lions, South African penguins and one of the largest reef tanks on the East Coast. They even had a chance to feed and touch stingrays.
