On Saturday, October 19, 2019, Bethpage Schools in conjunction with FIRST Long Island, hosted FIRST Long Island Training Day for robotics teams across Long Island.  FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is based in Manchester, New Hampshire, was designed to inspire students interest and participation in science and technology.  In addition, FIRST also helps to motivate students to pursue education and career interests in the STEM fields.

Approximately forty teams attended FIRST Long Island Training Day, represented by up to two coaches/mentors and one student per team participating in FIRST Lego League, FIRST Lego League, Jr., or FIRST Tech Challenge to learn about the rules and mission about the FIRST competitions, project development, judging process, scoring, gracious professionalism, and the other core values of FIRST.  Participants also had the opportunity to attend beginner or advanced programming sessions and received support.

Students on the Bethpage High School Robotics Team (Regal Eagles, FIRST Robotics Competition Team #2869) and John F. Kennedy Middle School Robotics Team (RoboEagles, FIRST Lego League Team #28779) sold food and snacks as a fundraiser to support their respective season and mission.

Special thanks to the custodial engineers, network technicians, Mr. LaSpina, Ms. Gatanas, student members of the Regal Eagles, student members of the RoboEagles, and parents/guardians of the Regal Eagles and RoboEagles for their support of this event.

Bethpage Schools enjoyed hosting this event and remains a proud supporter of STEM and robotics in the school community and across Long Island.
