Astronomy Night 2007
Bethpage Schools held it Third Annual Astronomy Night and it was a huge success! Everyone was disappointed that it rained and we could not go outside to look through the telescopes, but there was still plenty of activity going on. We had a special guest, Mr. Val Kraut (and his lovely wife) who is a Technical Fellow at Northrop-Grumman. Mr. Kraut gave two presentations on NASA's plans for returning to the Moon and how Northrop-Grumman hopes to be involved with that project. Mr. Kraut, who worked on the first lunar landing program, outlined the differences and talked about how the next program hopes to spend two weeks on the moon.
After that fascinating discussion, the students moved on to workshops about the phases of the moon, mythology and the stars, navigating with the stars, and once again we had two inflatable planetariums up and running. Over 700 people were there for the event. Thanks to all the students, teachers and administrators involved in the program and to Ms. Janice Yale, Director of Science, for organizing the event. Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Kraut for spending a Friday evening with us!
It was a great evening!
