Jordan Schessler Presents $1,000 Donation on Behalf of
Bethpage High School

Bethpage High School junior Jordan Schessler recently presented a check in the amount of $1,000 to National Lymphedema Networks Medical Advisory Committee member Ms. Bonnie Lasinski on behalf of the school. This generous donation was the outcome of the Lymphedema Scavenger Hunt coordinated by Jordan along with School Social Worker Ms. Christine Kennedy and other contributors.

Ms. Lasinski, who also serves as the Clinical Director of Lymphedema Therapy in Woodbury, expressed appreciation and praise during her visit to the High School. “No student has coordinated anything quite like this before,” she said. “This was an amazing way for Jordan to include her friends in an effort to give back.”

Lymphedema causes swelling in the arms or legs due to missing or damaged
lymph nodes or lymphatic vessels, and Jordan has lived with the condition since elementary school. The scavenger hunt incorporated curricular subject areas as well as health-focused topics. A successful component of Bethpage High School’s 21st Century Learning Scholar initiative, the event garnered over 100 student participants. Under the 21st Century program, students are developing and maintaining online portfolios and accumulating extra credit based on their experiences and written submissions, pursuing topics of personal interest.

Congratulations to Jordan and everyone else who helped supported this cause.
