Computer Programmers Win Major Tournament

Out of the 50 teams competing, Bethpage High School , for the first time ever, won the St. Joseph 's College Annual High School Computer Programming Contest. The contest consisted of six problems with varying degrees of difficulty. Students had to write a program to solve each problem. Students were judged not only on correct solutions but also on how long it took them to code, debug and run their programs. The team, consisting of Steven Kappel, Kyle Dayton, and Kevin Sackel put in a considerable amount of time practicing for this competition. They worked on problems before school, after school, and at home; not to mention the practice over the April break. Not only does the school get a trophy where Bethpage High School gets engraved for the 2009 winner, but each student earned a $500 scholarship. Congratulations to all the students and to their advisor Mr. LaSpina who also put in a great deal of time working with the students!

Nice going!
