American Cancer Society Relay for Life

Relay For Life Kickoff meeting was held on February 28, 2007.  It was a HUGE success.  The Jewish Community Center Room was FULL.  The community turned out in force and Judy & Kevin Wichter are responsible for a lot of that.  Students Putting and End to Cancer, a club at Bethpage High School, also showed up in force as chairs of committees or just members.  Victoria Lamagna and Kevin Bickard showed up early to start the decorating and then the rest of SPEC came in to help set up.  Channel 12 filmed and interviewed about students. The BHS Jazz Band rhythm section performed and Nassau County Legislator Ed Mangano and his wife Linda were there as enthusiastic community members (just see the picture of the Ship of Hope created by Mrs. Mangano).

The BHS SPEC club is well served by its advisor, Mrs. Leslie Scuderi. Thanks to her for all the efforts on this day and the many others she devotes to the cause of ending cancer. Another teacher, Ms. Ida Barry, was responsible for Channel 12 showing up. Ms. Diane Greene (community member) who wrote a book about cancer in her family was the guest speaker and very moving.
