BHS Student Civic Talent Show Raises $1,200 to Combat Polio

Bethpage High School’s Student Civic Association, under the direction of advisor and teacher Mrs. Jackie Jill-Rito, held its annual Talent Show on February 9th with proceeds benefiting the Rotary International Initiative to Eradicate Polio Worldwide. The event was once again a great success, raising $1,200 for this cause.

Talented students presented everything from vocal acts to band performances to dancing. All participants did an outstanding job, with Minority Report band members Andrew Vitiello, Brian Bedney, Scott Lampert, Justin Marchisotta, and Sean Ryan along with dancers Anthony Beltran, Jermaine John, and Kevin Tengco taking the first prize of $100 for their “99 Problems Medley.” Second prize went to EJ Rosentel, Christopher Aponte, Steven Coyle and Maryanne Brown for their song performance, “Crush, Crush, Crush,” and third prize was awarded to Claire Murphy, who sang the Puccini Opera song, “O Mio Bambino Caro.”

This year’s judging panel was comprised of former New York Jets player Ken Schroy, Bethpage High School graduate and Casari band drummer Bob Wulff, Casari guitarist and vocalist Michael Ventimiglia, and Bethpage-Plainview Rotary Club officer George Hannau. The Co-Masters of Ceremony were “Rocky” from WBAB Radio station and Bethpage High School senior Keegan McGowan. Student Brittany Benke opened the event by singing the National Anthem.

Throughout the evening, attendees had the opportunity to win raffle prizes such as gift certificates, handbags, and even tickets to a New York Islanders hockey game with free limo service provided by the Marconi family and 3J-Limousine, Inc. Other giveaways included WBAB t-shirts that were thrown out into the crowd. Refreshments were served as well.

The Student Civic Association extends a wholehearted thanks to all who came out to support the students of Bethpage High School and their effort to help others.
