Long Island Technology Summit
Organizers of the Long Island Technology Summit asked the Bethpage Schools to provide examples of students in action using technology for 21st Century Learning. Students from JFK Middle School and Bethpage High School were able to present projects they have worked on during the course of the last two years along with their teachers. Students in Ms. Padalino's classes showed how Polar Fitness equipment is used to track individual student progress for lifelong fitness. Mr. Pollatos had students discuss Astronomy Night as they demonstrated Stellarium software and Google Earth. Mr. LaRochester and Mr. Zabell had students from the Summer Technology Camp demonstrate video production and robotics. Original music compositions were being played via our Korg synthesizers used in Mr. Stehlik's Digitial Music class. There was great interest in how Ms. Murphy and Mr. Sawicz use iPods to teach foreign language. The Bitoechnology program showed off several experiments conducted by students in Mr. Sciacca's class at JFK and Mr. Portuese's BHS Forensics class. And while all this was going on, the Bethpage Radio station was broadcasting as two students from Mr. Malossi's Electronic Journalism class were putting on a show. Visitors to the demonstration included educators and business people from around Long Island. One person commented that, "It was not jus that they were able to demo the technology and the science, but the fact that these young students were able to talk so eloquently about their subjects that impressed me the most."
Thanks to all the students and the teachers for making Bethpage look so good!
Thanks also the Ms. Yale and the Bills for all their support!
