‘Bee’ing There
Top Geography Contestants Recognized at JFK Middle School

JFK Middle School in Bethpage held a Geography Bee coordinated by District Director of Social Studies and Libraries Mr. Kevin Fullerton along with Social Studies teachers. Eighth grader Nikhil Goyal was named first place winner and is now eligible to take a qualifying test with the prospect of participating in the State-level Geography Bee.

Geography Bee questions tested students’ knowledge of the various components of geography, such as states, continents, bodies of water, capitals, countries, islands, and land formations. It was a close competition that came down to a few final questions for Nikhil and runner up Dan Cascarella, a sixth grade student.

The school- and state-level Geography Bees are prerequisites for the National Geographic Bee, organized by National Geographic magazine. The National Geographic Society provides materials to schools and students to help them to prepare for the contests. State-level competitions will take place in April, and the National Geographic Bee is scheduled for May. Every participant received a commemorative JFK Middle School Geography Bee t-shirt.
