Family And Consumer Science Class: Pillowcases

This spring, Mrs. Blau’s 8th grade FACS (Family and Consumer Science) classes machine-sewed colorful pillowcases for hospitalized children suffering from cancer or other serious illnesses. The pillowcases will be donated to a local hospital through an organization called, “ConKerrCancer.org.” This is a quote from Sarah Charles, who is one of the students in the class: “As a class, we decided that we wanted to make something that would benefit others. After Mrs. Blau told us about this project, we knew that this was the thing we were going to do! We had a lot of fun picking out our patterns and sewing the pillowcases. On the organization’s website, we looked at pictures of children who had received pillowcases in the past. We saw how happy the pillowcases made the children and how a little thing brought so much excitement to them. After the pillowcases were made, everybody felt good about themselves knowing that we made a difference in a child’s life.”
