Bethpage Parents Head Back to School
For one evening last week, Bethpage parents had the opportunity to head back to school, literally. The Bethpage School District hosted a Parent Academy , which gave parents the opportunity to meet with building and curriculum administrators and participate in workshops designed to address many of the academic challenges for which today's students face.
Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Technology Terrence Clark led off the evening's activities by sharing with parents on the latest NY State standards and required tests. This included how to best prepare students for the exams. Mathematics Director Angela Kozlowski and English Language Arts Director Chryseis Corson assisted Mr. Clark. At the same time, attorney Laura Granelli was discussing the legal issues of social hosting where alcohol is served.
Parents later had the opportunity to participate in workshops on three of the following topics: financial planning, Biotechnology, Technology, the Challenger program, High School and Middle School transition, Mathematics, Reading , wellness, and stress reduction. Workshops were lead by teachers, administrators and parents.
More than 80 parents attended the academy. Additional academies are planned for the future and parents are encouraged to attend (workshops are free). The Bethpage Congress of Teachers provided refreshments. Thanks to everyone for the help!
