Information about the H1N1 Flu
(This site will be updated as needed)

Bethpage, like all schools across the country, is preparing for the possible outbreak of the H1N1 flu. We have been in constant contact with the Nassau County Department of Health and the State Education Department. We have sanitized our buildings over the summer and continue to be vigilant in our cleaning. Everyone will tell you that the best way to prevent the spread of the flu is to keep your mouth covered when you cough, wash your hands frequently and stay home if you are feeling sick.

We will update this site as needed. For more information, you can call the Nassau County Flu Hotline at 1-888-684-4271.

Confirmed Cases of H1N1 Flu: NOTE CHANGE

The Nassau County Health Department has now informed us to assume that all flu is a strain of H1N1.

In all Bethpage cases reported as of 11/10/09, the H1N1 has been mild. Most of the students have already returned to school.

We will notify parents directly via ConnectEd if we have a serious case of H1N1 (meaning a child required hospitalization). To date, one child at JFK was hospitalized as a precaution because of underlying medical conditions. We are happy to report that the child is well and has returned to school.

As Mr. Clark noted in his last message, healthy students belong in school and sick children belong at home. Sick students should stay home until 24 hours after their fever has broken.
