Inauguration of Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano

Bethpage High School served as the location for the inauguration for newly elected Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano. Bethpage High School was proud to be the site for such an historic occasion. Mr. Mangano and his wife Linda are both graduates of Bethpage, a theme Mr. Mangano revisited several times in his speech. Additional speeches were delivered by Senator Charles Schumer, Congressman Peter King and the new Presiding Officer of the Nassau County Legislature, Peter Schmitt. There were terrific performances by the Bethpage High School Jazz Band, the Bethpage High School Band, the Nassau County Police Department Pipe and Drum Band, the Antioch Baptist Church Choir and moving patriotic songs sung by Leandra McNair and Chaplain Rick Mercado. Mr. Mangano gave a speech about the problems we face as a County, but emphasized his desire to work in a bipartisan manner to solve those problems. He recalled the work done on Long Island by Grumman employees and our community's role in space exploration. Mr. Mangano has been instrumental in revitalizing the Grumman property to where it is today with 15,000 workers.

Immediately after the ceremony, Mr. Mangano gave his first interview as County Executive in the new Bethpage Television Studio where he was interviewed by Amy Gaines. We will post that interview and many more pictures in the next few days.

Thanks to all the BHS students who volunteered to assist on this day in setting up cameras, lighting and sound, or in one of the bands or serving as an usher. They made us all very proud with their maturity and demeanor. Thanks also to the 21st Century Scholar students and the many staff and faculty members who participated. And special thanks to the incredible job done by the tech staff and the custodial crew in getting the school ready. BHS never looked so good!
