Hurricane Houses

CCS-Marcis.jpg thumbnail46344
As part of the enrichment curriculum, students of Lorraine Marcis at CCS built houses they thought would withstand hurricane force winds. A culmination to their unit on weather, students worked in small groups and were given a ‘budget’ with which to buy supplies and build a model house.

Supplies that were available to them included sticks, paper, clay, paperclips and tape. The house had to withstand high winds, created through the use of a leaf blower. Students were judged on how well their house withstood the elements.
