Michael Barden is recipient of the NASTAR Award for Bethpage Schools

On Thursday, June 11, 2026, Nassau BOCES held its Eighth Annual NASTAR Awards Ceremony at the Hofstra University Club to recognize all of the awards receipients across Nassau County's school districts. A NASTAR is considered an "evangelist or innovator who uses technology tools to drive teaching, learning, and instructional outcomes."

Michael Barden, World Languages educator from Bethpage High Schools was the NASTAR Award Recipient for Bethpage Schools. Mr. Barden's nomination read:

"Mr. Barden is a true technology innovator and trailblazer whose work consistently elevates teaching and learning. He is always seeking out and implementing new and creative methods to engage his students, ensuring that technology is not just an add-on, but a meaningful tool that enhances comprehension and participation. Through platforms such as Google Classroom, Gimkit, and other forms of digitized gaming, Mr. Barden creates dynamic and interactive learning experiences that capture his students’ attention and keep them actively involved in the learning process. Mr. Barden's ability to thoughtfully integrate technology increases accessibility, fosters collaboration, and meets the diverse needs of his students. His classroom reflects a forward-thinking approach where innovation drives instruction, and students are empowered to take ownership of their learning. Beyond his own classroom, Mr. Barden is a leader among his colleagues and always willing to support staff, share his expertise, and facilitate professional learning sessions focused on best practices for integrating technology into instruction. He also serves as the advisor for HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) and assistant coach for Varsity Badminton. Mr. Barden's commitment, creativity, and dedication makes him a standout educator and valued member of the Bethpage Schools learning community and a deserving recipient of the NASTAR Award."
