Second graders in Barbara Cataldi and Erika Lemaire’s class at Central Boulevard Elementary School recently celebrated National First Responders Day by inviting some local heroes into their classroom.

Distinguished guests included Michael DeMelfi, 5th precinct police officer; Frank Lemaire, New York City firefighter and Frankie DeBobes, Nassau County paramedic and Bethpage Fire Department chief and paramedic. Each spoke about their jobs and were recognized by the class for their service.

The class presented them with a certificate, sang a first responders song and gave them a display of thank you jokes to bring back to their unit. One student also read a poem of appreciation. It was a great day!
