Ms. Dellavalle's second graders at CBS had a St. Patrick's Day they won't soon forget – thanks to a very naughty leprechaun!
While the class was away at music, the mischievous visitor snuck into the classroom and made a complete mess. Students returned to find their room in total disarray but rose to the occasion and cheerfully cleaned everything up.
Not ones to let a leprechaun get the last laugh, the children decided to fight back. During library and lunch, student teams worked together to build leprechaun traps using Magna Tiles, Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs, Keva Planks, foam 3D shapes and even money as bait. The engineering challenge had everyone buzzing with excitement.
When the class returned from lunch, they discovered that something had indeed set off the traps – but the crafty leprechaun had slipped away. In his wake, he left a trail of green rocks and a special note. The students used magic rock cleaner to wash the rocks and made one final, sparkling discovery: gold coins hidden inside!
It may not have been the capture they were hoping for, but Ms. Dellavalle's class had a magical – and memorable – St. Patrick's Day.
