Students holding up cornhusk dolls

Kramer Lane second graders learned how to create their own corn husk dolls on Nov. 21 with the help of Nassau BOCES naturalists. The hands-on activity was part of Nassau BOCES’ Colonial Crafts program.

While following the guidance of the naturalists, the students used corn husk, string, and ribbon to assemble their corn husk doll just as the settlers did. The second graders helped each other throughout the process and they each made their corn husk doll unique with either a dress or pants. The hands-on colonial lesson was a positive learning experience for all.
