Third-grade students at Kramer Lane Elementary School got a hands-on lesson in heart health on Mar. 27, when representatives from Northwell visited the school's library for an interactive program designed to teach young learners how to keep their hearts strong.
The program was built around four rotating stations, each tackling a different aspect of cardiovascular health. Students explored how the foods they eat affect their hearts, watched a demonstration of how the heart pumps blood through the body, learned about the role of exercise in keeping the heart healthy and got the chance to listen to their own pulse.
That last activity came with a special perk – each student received their own stethoscope to use during the lesson. Students also went home with a Northwell bag, a chef's hat and a healthy fruit cup to enjoy as a snack.
The visit gave Kramer Lane's third graders an opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world health concepts, making the experience both educational and memorable. With expert guidance and plenty of hands-on activities, students left with a stronger understanding of why caring for their hearts matters, and the tools to start doing it.
