On May 29, fourth graders at Kramer Lane Elementary School brought the world to their cafeteria with a vibrant and heartwarming International Feast that celebrated the rich cultural diversity of their school community.
The event kicked off with spirited student performances of traditional cultural dances, setting a joyful tone for the day. Parents were invited to join in on the dancing, which made for an energetic and inclusive start to the celebration.
Families were invited to prepare and share a dish that represented their heritage, turning the feast into a global tasting experience. Tables were filled with a colorful array of home-cooked dishes, from savory to sweet, giving students and their families a delicious tour of international flavors.
Among the many highlights were:
* Salame de Chocolate, a decadent Portuguese dessert
* Kimbap, a Korean rice and seaweed roll
* Sheek Kebab from Bangladesh
* Dawali, Palestinian stuffed grape leaves
* Mexican tacos, always a crowd-pleaser
* Gatto di Patate, a potato cake from Sicily
* Beef empanadas from the Dominican Republic
* German pretzels with cheese dipping sauce, of course
* Varenyky, traditional Ukrainian dumplings
The International Feast was not just about food—it was a celebration of identity, heritage and the strong sense of community at Kramer Lane. It was a meaningful reminder that while students may come from different backgrounds, they share a common pride in who they are and a collective joy in learning from one another.
