Aidan Lyons holding up a t-shirt at the Long Island Heart Walk

Bethpage High School's Aidan Lyons was born with a rare heart condition called Tetrology of Fallot. He has undergone two open heart surgeries. After his second surgery in eighth grade, he wanted to give back and help others, so he became a youth ambassador for the American Heart Association in 2023. This entails speaking about his journey at schools, businesses, and fundraisers across Long Island.

This year, Aidan was honored as a survivor at the Long Island Heart Walk at Jones Beach as a Red Cap Ambassador for the American Heart Association (AHA). He raised over $3,000 leading up to the day of the walk that goes to the AHA. He shared his story with CBS News to spread awareness and serve as a powerful reminder of the impact of research and community support.

Aidan is also facilitating a fundraiser at Bethpage High School with the SADD Club (Students Against Destructive Decisions) the week of October 6-10 with all proceeds to support the AHA.
