Students at JFK Middle School recently enjoyed an afternoon filled with laughter, friendly competition and school spirit as they participated in a special Family Feud-style game designed to celebrate the character trait of pride.
The creative event, organized by the JFK counseling center in collaboration with the school's Character Education Committee, brought the entire student body together through grade-level assemblies for a unique twist on the classic game show format.
Each month throughout the school year, JFK Middle School focuses on promoting one of eight essential character traits through specially designed activities and programs. October's spotlight on pride provided the perfect opportunity for students to demonstrate school spirit while learning valuable lessons about self-respect and community.
We are dedicated to the mission of developing the fullest potential of our students and to facilitating the transformation from child to young adult, and from dependent to independent learner in an environment that builds respect for others and self, the JFK counseling department emphasizes. The character education activities serve as a cornerstone of this commitment, ensuring every student feels welcomed and valued.
Assistant Principal Mr. Murray took on hosting duties for the entertaining competition, guiding students through questions that hit close to home. What made this Family Feud particularly special was that all questions and answers came directly from surveys of JFK students themselves.
Students tackled relatable prompts such as What would you find in a JFK student's backpack? and What musical artist are JFK students most likely listening to on the bus? The personalized approach made the game both relevant and engaging, sparking recognition and giggles throughout the audience.
Adding an extra layer of excitement, the student body has been divided into blue and gold teams that compete throughout the entire school year. Each month's character-focused activity offers opportunities to earn points, with the winning team to be announced at year's end after tallying results from all competitions.
As October's pride celebration concludes, JFK Middle School is already preparing for November's character trait: Responsibility. Students will have the chance to earn more points for their grade-level teams through a food drive competition, demonstrating their commitment to caring for community members during the Thanksgiving holiday.
The character education journey will continue through the spring, culminating in May with the final trait of the year – Perseverance – a fitting conclusion to a year of growth, learning and community building.
Through these engaging monthly activities, JFK Middle School continues to prove that education extends far beyond textbooks, nurturing well-rounded young adults prepared to make positive contributions to their communities.
