The Bethpage Board of Education meeting on Oct. 28 highlighted the district's commitment to both academic achievement and student voice.
Four Bethpage High School seniors received certificates of recognition from Superintendent David Schneider for their outstanding performance in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Aaryan Rupesh earned the distinction of National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist, while Aryaan Khalfan, Benjamin Maciel-Seidman and Jessica Wojnicki were named Commended Students. These honors reflect the students' exceptional scores on the PSAT/NMSQT and place them among the nation's top-performing high school students.
The meeting also marked a milestone in student engagement as Sarah Oh, student council president and Bethpage's first-ever student ex-officio member of the board, delivered her inaugural seasonal report. Oh provided updates on recent school events, including homecoming festivities and the popular Halloween on the Field celebration. She also addressed the pressing concern on many seniors' minds: approaching college application deadlines.
As part of her role, Oh will present reports three times throughout the school year, ensuring that student perspectives remain an integral part of board discussions. This new position represents the district's ongoing effort to amplify student voices in educational decision-making.
The dual focus on academic recognition and student representation at Tuesday's meeting underscores Bethpage's dedication to fostering excellence while creating meaningful opportunities for student leadership.
