The week before Bethpage’s December break, members of the Bethpage High School’s staff participated in the first annual holiday door decoration contest, “Deck the Doors.”
Starting on Dec. 15, faculty had exactly one week to decorate their office or classroom door before judging took place on Dec. 22.
The winners were announced on Dec. 23, with the math department triumphing over the 52 other participants and taking home the top award with their theme “Holiday Music.” They won a bagel breakfast party and a grand trophy.
The other awards were as follows:
Most Festive
1st place: Dayna Vollmuth
2nd place: Zoe Pappetti
Honorable mention: Natayla Baichan
Most Creative
1st place: The library
2nd place: Terri Shutkind
Honorable mention: Guidance department
Judge’s Choice
1st place: Rob Fisher
2nd place: Business department
Honorable mention: Pupil Personnel Services
Prizes included $50 gift cards for 1st place and $25 gift cards for 2nd place.
AP World and Philosophy teacher Ms. Way, who organized the event, hopes to continue this event with the staff next year, making “Deck the Doors” an annual tradition. She said, “’Deck the Doors’ has been on my "to do" list for several years. I introduced it this year to bring a little holiday cheer and competition into the building.”
