On March 3, Bethpage High School's gymnasium came alive with school spirit as the Challenger team took to the court alongside their BHS peers for an inspiring basketball scrimmage. Students were divided into a blue team and a gold team, with Challenger members and peer leaders playing side by side on both squads – a true reflection of what inclusion looks like in action.
The gym was filled with family, friends and supporters who came out to cheer on both teams, creating an electric atmosphere of encouragement and celebration. The Challenger students reminded everyone in attendance what true sportsmanship and pure joy in playing the game looks like – competing with heart, enthusiasm and smiles that never faded.
Bethpage's kickline team brought extra energy to the event with a halftime performance, drawing applause from the crowd. The afternoon also included a special acknowledgement of Athletic Director Mr. Franchi, who is retiring this year after a remarkable career of service to the Bethpage community. In honoring his legacy, the tribute said it best: You didn't just build a sports program, you built an environment that is inclusive of all.
That spirit of inclusion was on full display on March 3 – in every pass, every cheer and every smile shared across the gym floor. Events like this scrimmage are a testament to the kind of school community Bethpage has built: one where every student is celebrated, every athlete belongs and the greatest victory is playing together.
