Students in Bethpage High School's NeuroGlow club got a rare, hands-on look at aesthetic medicine during a recent 21st Century Scholar activity led by science teacher Ms. Papetti – and the centerpiece of the session was the school's brand-new Anatomage table.
NeuroGlow was founded by 10th graders Lurie Lee and Millie Sudhir as a space to explore self-care through the intersecting lenses of psychology, neurology, and aesthetics. This was the club's second activity, and it didn't disappoint.
Using the Anatomage table, students were guided through simulated aesthetic procedures including Botox and filler injections, while examining facial musculature and construction. The activity sparked discussion about how these treatments connect to psychology, self-perception, and the broader concept of self-image.
The Anatomage table, new to Bethpage this year, is already proving to be a transformative addition to science education. The life-sized, 3D anatomy system is built on real frozen cadaveric slices, offering ultra-high-definition, digitized representations of human anatomy, physiology and pathology, giving students an immersive experience that goes far beyond a traditional textbook.
For NeuroGlow members, the session was equal parts fascinating and thought-provoking. Next up, the group plans to dive into the psychological dimensions of self-care and self-image.
