Two seventh graders from JFK Middle School have been recognized among the top student artists in New York State, earning spots in the 2026 Annual Water Calendar Contest hosted by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York Water Environment Association.

Diyaa Shah and Emily Xia were selected as two of just 14 winners from a competitive field of more than 700 submissions representing 23 schools across the state. Their original posters, both inspired by this year's theme Water Connects Us All, stood out for their creativity and artistic interpretation of the important environmental message.

As winners, Diyaa and Emily will each receive a framed copy of their poster and their artwork will be featured in the 2027 statewide water calendar, distributed to communities across New York.

Congratulations to Diyaa and Emily on this outstanding achievement!
