The gymnasium at Charles Campagne Elementary School was transformed into a living, breathing museum on May 20 as second grade students took over the space for the school's beloved annual Wax Museum event. Dressed as iconic figures from throughout history, from scientists and civil rights leaders to athletes and chart-topping performers, students stood frozen in character, ready to share the stories behind their chosen subjects.

Families were invited to move through the room, pausing to press play on the floor in front of each young historian. With that cue, students sprang to life, delivering well-researched presentations about their historical figure.

A highlight of the second grade experience at Bethpage's elementary schools, the Wax Museum is the culmination of weeks of dedicated research and preparation. Each student selects a figure who has made a meaningful impact in science, sports, the arts, activism, or public service and works to learn all about their story. With guidance from their teachers, students gather facts, craft short biographies, and rehearse their presentations.

Beyond the performance, the Wax Museum builds a meaningful set of skills: research, writing, memorization and public speaking, all wrapped up in one of the most engaging learning experiences of the school year.
