Students standing in front of cars,

Bethpage's three elementary schools came together this spring to support a cause close to the hearts of many in our community, raising a combined total of $2,718 for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation through car washes held at each school.

The car washes were more than just fundraisers; they were hands-on lessons in service, community and gratitude. Students and families turned out in full force, and by all accounts, the kids had a wonderful time making it happen.

"We are so proud to support the important work of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation," said Julianne Inghilterra, principal of Charles Campagne Elementary School. "We are grateful for the opportunity to teach our students about service, giving back and honoring our nation's heroes.”

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation carries out the mission of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter who gave his life on September 11, 2001, strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers to help those in need. The foundation supports catastrophically injured service members, first responders and their families.

Bethpage's elementary schools look forward to continuing their partnership with the foundation in the years ahead.
